postheadericon Paint Shop Pro Pixel Painting – Apple

Paint Shop Pro Pixel Painting
Apple Tutorial

This is a tiny tutorial to make an apple
and how to shade it.

You can draw your own outline by following the template below.
Or you can download this outline already done for you.

Each square in the template represents 1
pixel.
The bigger you make your brush tip, the bigger the apple will be.

After you have your outline drawn, we can
start coloring the apple.
Below is the color palette I used, and the number are the order I used
them in.

After you have your outline drawn, select
the apple part with your magic wand and flood fill with color

1.

Still keeping the apple selected, make a
new layer,
and using color 2 and you Airbrush tool, paint a circle on your apple.

Now switch to color 3, and paint a smaller
circle

Now switch your color to 4,
and spray under the leaf and along the right side and bottom.

Keeping selected, go to your Gaussian Blur
and set it to 3

Now De-Select and merge layers

Now select both sides of you leaf and
flood fill with color 5

Keeping Selected, make a new layer,
and using you paint brush set to 1, make a small line on both sides of
leaf.

Now go again to your Gaussian Blur and set
it to 1

De-Select and merge layers

Select the inside of your apple stem.
and flood fill with color 8. (note I skipped 7, you will see later)

Ok now de-select and you have an apple.
If you like the black outline, you are done.
If you want to change the colors of the outline,
use you Paint Brush and using color 4 for the apple,
7 for the left and 9
for the stem, color the outline.

Now you have an apple!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and maybe
found a new trick to use in the future.
Remember to always try different things, like colors, effects and never be
afraid to experiment!

postheadericon A Special Gift

When the theme for this week’s Heritage Chat was announced, I really didn’t think about it much. I could think of at least a dozen or so gifts from my past that I thought were special. I could remember several toys, dresses, bicycles, and books, which were special to me. I had all the typical little memories of gifts I received while growing up. I knew I could do this layout without even thinking about it.

So they day came to do this oh so easy – I can do it in my sleep – just another slap it together and post layout. I open up my sketch book and grabbed my pencil and – and – nothing.

Yes, you heard me, Nothing!

All those typical – easy to remember – any child’s memories of birthday and Christmas gifts refused, and I do mean, Refused to step forward.

They were there, I could see them, but every time I reached for one the whole group would retreat farther back in to the darkness.

Well, this was no good, what was I missing. Was it the wrong week, did I hear the theme wrong? What was going on?

So I said it slowly and out loud, hoping maybe they would hear and understand they had a chance to become a star for a day, and one would rush forward.

A Special Gift, a special gift, aspecialgift, A SPECIAL GIFT!

Hmmm a Special… Special… could that be it?

Was all this chaos over the word “special”?

Did none of these memories consider themselves special or was it they didn’t think they were special enough?

First bike, first frilly dress, first puppy, all these seem special to me. Yes, they are typical memories that every person might have, but does that make them not special?

So, we have to rethink this.

I have to come up with a truly “Special” gift.

Something not typical, something no one else has or can ever get. (Why do I keep hearing the Mission Impossible music playing?)

What do I have, no one else has or ever will?

That is easy, I have my Grandmothers blessing of humor, wit, compassion and love.
She gave them to me through blood and teaching. It is the one gift I will always cherish and wear every day of my life proudly. I cannot return it, but I can pass it on to my children and grand children, and I pray daily that I have.
She was an amazing lady, and I hope I have half her style, though I already know I have none of her grace. I am a klutz, but that’s a whole different gift story. She taught me to laugh at good times and hard times, and most importantly, at myself. She loved me unconditionally and always made me feel wanted. She was as stubborn as a mule, but as soft as a kitten, and she never turned anyone away from her door. She was very outspoken, but always willing to listen. If she called you by your first and middle name, you would automatically freeze in place and start thinking of what you had done. If she told you to stay within shouting distance, a three mile radius was safe. She always cooked enough for 50 and green Jello was at every meal. She believed banks were for rich people and money should be wrapped in foil and place in freezer. She washed her paper plates and reused them no less than 3 times, and scotch tape was great for plugging the small holes that might show up.

So the next time someone says, “You are just like your grandmother”, say thank you.
I do!

postheadericon Stuck in a “White Space” – 10/4/08

7:25 am
Good Morning,
I was able to sleep untill almost 5 am this morning. That is a big improvment for me. I did have to do the 2:30 ritual with the animals, but I think I was sleep walking through most of it. I got them out, fed and calmed down and it didn’t take me long to go back to sleep, so I am very happy and feel much better.
Brian got home from work a little before 5 am and doesn’t have to go back until around 7 or 8 tonight. Hopefully he will catch up on some sleep today.
It is good sleeping weather, cool, rainy and dark. I think Fall has finally come to Oregon. I am glad, we need the rain and I need the cool weather. I don’t do well in heat.
I have already been working on a new layout this morning. I am making “Ready Made” layouts for my SNL project this month. I have 4 done so far, but I don’t think I will be stopping there. I am really enjoying learning this “white space” concept, and I like how the photo become the main element and focus. I think I like it, because it fits my personal idea of what a scrapbook page should be. I want the main focus to be the photo, not the fluff and frills around it. Remember, that a personal preference, and my taste is usually just the opisite of everyone else.
Here is this mornings creation.

The picture is of two of my brother-in-laws, back a few years and a lot more hair, ago.
Well, time to get some daily chores done and a nice hot shower. I love my showers!

8:30 am

I figured it was about time for me to find out just what “White Space” was, and what it meant to a scrapbook layout. So I did the first thing I always do when in search of the unknown, I Googled it.

I have learned that leaving some empty space on your layout is actually a good thing! Empty space can be an important element in your page design. White space or empty space can make a dramatic impact on your layout.
To use your white space effectively, try to avoid trapping white space. Trapped white space is a block of unused space trapped in the center of a page. Push the white space to the outside of the page. For example, don’t leave a space or hole between two elements. Move the elements closer together and let the space move to the outside of the elements. Group your elements and use the empty, or white space as a frame.
I need to break out of the mindset that every empty space on my layout must be filled. Giving the eye a place to rest can actually help emphasize the more important part of my layout.
I need to stop feeling compelled to use every single element from the kits that I purchased. Less is most often more in many cases. I do not want the elements to be the focal point of my page. I want the photo or photo’s to be the focal point of my layout.
I think the real talent of a kit designer is to help you show off your photos, not their work, after all these are your memories, not theirs.

Well, that is what I learned about white space and layout design. I think I like it, how about you?

11:15 am

I got dishes done, and laundry started, so I am set for awhile. I have my timer going so I can remember to switch up the laundry. I tend to totally forget about it. The laundry room is in the basement, so I don’t think about it often.
I have been thinking a lot about scrapbooking and layouts, and all the different styles there are around. It’s really amazing to go through a gallery and see all the different designs and inspiration.
I get a kick out of going through my own gallery and see how my style has changed. Sometimes it changes daily, and sometimes it takes forever. Then there are the ones that get the famous “what the hell were you thinking” tag. I have quite a few of those.
I keep saying I am going to go through and redo them all, but then I forget or my mood changes and they never get touched. I guess it is always good to have reminders around so you can see if you are improving.
Here is a quick layout I did while waiting for my towels to wash.

The kit I used is “Oh So Sugarlious by Rene Bross” from the Freebies Gallery at DSP

postheadericon White Space and Weird Sleep Habits – 10/3/08

I woke up at 2:30 am this morning and could not get back to sleep. I have had some strange sleep habits lately, and I think it is due to Brian working nights. I am not use to him not being here and I do not sleep well with out him. Now don’t get all mushy, it’s not all that romantic. We have a dog that has to go out at all times of night and with out Brian, I have to get up and let him out. I can not fall asleep at the drop of a hat like Brian, so I end up awake. I do admit though, I miss having Brian snoring next to me. Funny the things we don’t even notice till they are gone.
So, at 3 am I was up and checking emails and working on another layout. I am learning the “white space” concept. I don’t completly understand it, so I am not even sure I have it right yet.
Here is the layout I did this morning.

You know, I always considered scrapbooking just another way of keeping a visual journal. A personal log of memories and events from your personal life. I never knew there were so many rules attached to scrapbooks. I will probably never master them, but it is fun learning. Even if I don’t understand what I am doing.
Here is another layout I did this morning for the “Challenge of 4″. It was to use 4 photographs of different sizes in a layout.

As you can see, I am still stuck in the white space mode, plus I am feeling kind of sorry for the hubby having to put in so many long hours. He is home, he got here about 4 am and fell right to sleep. He has to go back in at 10 am and work until 4 or 5 am tomarrow morning. He is such a good man.

Ok, I have to do this. Trust me, you will enjoy it.

I don’t like politics, but I did like that comercial.
Well, I have been keeping myself busy today doing the normal housework and working on somemore layouts. I think I like the clean and simple look. It tends to add more of a dramatic effect to the photo.
Here are my latest two creations.

Ok, I think that is enough for today. It is after 10 pm, Brian is back at work and I am tired. Let us hope I sleep past 3 am.
Talk to you all tomorrow.
Huggles,
