postheadericon Today’s Granny Wisdom – Wet Cellphone in Rice Trick

I belong to a wonderful forum at the Digital Scrapbook Place. The most popular section of the forum is the Granny Thread. A group of the most caring, funniest and smartest ladies you would ever want to meet. Nothing gets past these ladies and if anyone needs something, small or large, they come to the “Grannies”. There is never a question left unanswered.
So I thought it would be a good thing to start keeping track of some of the “Granny Wisdom’s”.

Today’s Granny Wisdom – Wet Cellphones in Rice Trick
1. Remove Battery – Don’t even stop to think about it, remove battery immediately!
2. Remove Sim card – Some or all of your valuable contacts could be stored on your SIM.
3. Shake it – Shake it out without dropping it.
4. Put phone is Rice – cover the phone in a bowl or bag of uncooked rice (not instant rice) for 4 days, no less then 24 hours.
**Tips:
Do not try to use the phone at all while wet.
Dry Right or Damp Rid can also be used if rice is not available.
After you have waited 4 days or so, make sure everything is clean and dry looking and re-attach the battery to the phone and see if it works. If your phone does not work, try plugging it into its charger without the battery, if this works, you need a new battery.

That is today’s Granny Wisdom, hope you never have to use it!

postheadericon My Journal

People are always asking me about my Journal. I am one of those that doesn’t mind people reading it, though I doubt they would enjoy it or even understand it much. It contains mostly random words, numbers, list and sayings. It is a lot like my mind only on paper.
The one thing that people do seem to like are the pictures. I tend to doodle a lot while trying to think something through. Most of the time the pictures don’t get finished and a lot of them are just scribbles. I like the feel of my pen when it is writing. I guess you could call it a security blanket thing.
Seeing as I was looking for something to do, I thought I would show you the steps I take when one of my doodles gets to cone to life as one of my critters. So while I was kind of watching TV today, a commercial came on that I like. It has french speaking cows in it. It gave me an idea and I started sketching.

This is what I came up with.
As you can see the eraser is another one of my best friends.
After I got it the way I wanted it, I popped it in the scanner and uploaded it to my PSP program.
This is what you see here. I know, not very pretty, that is what Paint Shop Pro is for.

First thing I do is use the vector drawing tool and start outlining. Just like drawing only this time I use the mouse.
After I have it all outlined I save the shape so I can have it whenever the mood strikes. Hey, you never know when you might need a moody cow for something.

Here is the outline compared to the drawing. The nice part about always saving the outline as a shape, I can size it down or lager without any distortion. I can use it for almost anything and having an outline handy and ready to color anyway you want is always nice.

Now we get to do the fun part, the coloring. I was a real crayon lover as a kid and now I still use crayons, color pencils, and markers. I like the textures they make and the childish feeling I have while using them. Paint Shop Pro also has all these things and I like to use them a lot.
On this little critter I used the artistic chalk and crayon tools. I think it gives her character.
After she is all colored, I clear away the background, crop it down and that is it.

There she is, my newest critter, Moody. Isn’t she cute?
Well I hope you enjoy my little tour and thanks you for taking the time to actually sit through it. It was fun and I hope to do it again soon.

postheadericon Trying to keep what few marbles I do have …

I need a project, something to keep me sane. Well, OK, something to keep me from going “Totally” insane. I know I am already a bit odd, and I don’t mind. I like being a strange bird. Lately though, I seem to be falling deeper and deeper in to a dark place I am not fond of at all. To be blunt, “it sucks” and I don’t like it or how I act when there.
So, I need a project, something that will keep me busy both physically and mentally. Oh, I am not thinking actually digging ditches or painting houses kind of physical, I am thinking more of drawing, sketching, taking pictures type of physical. Hey, to me all the writing I do in my notebook everyday is considered physical! LOL
My notebook has been getting used and abused a lot lately. I expect it to pack up its pen and paper clips some night and run away. I can not say I would blame it, the poor thing is full of all kinds of scribbles, scratches and food stains. I don’t think there is one complete thought in all of his pages, and the real sad thing, there is not a drawing on any of his pages. I think my drawing muse took a summer vacation. I hope she returns soon, I really miss her and so does my notebook.
I tried real hard to get back in to scrapping this past week. I figured if I can’t draw, I could keep busy trying to scrap. It did help, it kept me busy about a week, but I must confess, I don’t feel the passion for it I should. I don’t have tons of pictures of family and friends and I have had to ask for donations or use stock photos. It’s not the same. There is something missing. There is no true meaning behind the layouts.
I did try making kits. I do very much enjoy doing that, but there are tons of places to get kits, both free and paid, and they are made by professionals.
So, I need a project, still. What can I do that will keep me busy and happy. Something that won’t cost anything ( I am so broke) and it has to be something with colors and paper and fun involved! Maybe I will dredge up some of the old old things my grans and I use to do. She is the one that got me in to crafts of all kinds.
Oh well, I will think about it and see what my notebook and my grans have to say, BBL

postheadericon It’s the simple things

I get up early everyday. Long before any of the other humans in this house do, but I am always cheerfully greeted by all the four legged fur babies. They bounce, slobber, meow, and dance happily as soon as my eyes open. It is like they have built in alarms that go off as soon as my eyes even flicker.
They all greet me at the edge of the bed to lead me to the back door or their food bowls. The cats will sing to me and keep me company as I visit the bathroom and they remind me every morning that they don’t care for day old dry food, and would I please change it before they “accidentally” tip the bowl over.
As soon as the sound of the first pop top echos through the silent house, the two older cats have made their way out of Sue’s room and are ready for their breakfast and morning scratch. They are not as vocal as their two younger siblings, but they are just as grateful and persistent.
by this time, Jake, the only dog is ready to come back in for his breakfast. He lets me know with one push of the back door, that he is done and it is time. Without a word he walks through the house, making sure everything is right and all his charges are where they belong, then he heads upstairs to his bowl. I fill his dish, which he inhales and then comes over to wipe his face on my legs, sneezes once for good measure and then goes back to sleep the rest of the morning away.
So here I sit, the sounds of snoring, purring and a snuffle now and then going on in the background. My morning may seems odd or even a pain to some, but to me, it’s a wonderful way to get up and I hope it never changes.

postheadericon “Remember When” Freebie for you

Aida Cloth
Wow, I don’t know what happen to this post, but something ate it. Sorry about that, guess my luck this week is holding to it’s normal not so great level. Oh well, so goes life :LOL
Anyway, this is a little kit I made up yesterday, trying to keep busy and my mind occupied. I was thinking about craft activities that young children could do. I decided that construction paper cards and scrapbooks are always a big hit. Every age level enjoys cutting, gluing and glitter. While I was checking around I ran across Paper Piercing. I remember way back when that was the hottest fad. Spending hours poking holes in all kinds of swirls and shapes, and always finding one line you did from the wrong side in the end.
I thought I would try my hand at digital paper piercing. This is what I came up with. I tried to make it have the paper feel, I like texture. I hope you enjoy it. You can download the kit from my Freebies section.
Sorry again about the messed up post. Have a great day!

postheadericon Very Long Day

This has been a super long day. Another one of those “hurry up and wait” type of days. My mother-in-law was told to be at the hospital at 8 am this morning. When she got there, they had no clue who she was, why she was there or what to do. It took them 2 1/2 hours to figure out what was going on.
They poked, prodded and took another gallon or so of blood. She spent all day there and the bad part is they still have no clue. It has been 5 days and still they can’t figure it out. She has had every test I have every heard of and some I haven’t. They keep talking about exploratory surgery, which makes everyone a bit tense. We really need answers soon, please.
